Joanne Walter is the founder of EcoInvest LLC, for which she has advised both US and foreign companies on implementing projects in Russia. Her recent projects include setting up Gazprombank’s planned high-technology venture fund, for which she developed the model and processes to run the fund and manage projects through their seed and start-up stages. Based on her work the bank received a license to operate this RUR 150 billion ($60 million) fund.

Prior to founding EcoInvest, Ms. Walter was a vice president at NCR Corporation. Among the businesses she launched at NCR were Self-Checkout Express and NCR’s web-based and stand-alone kiosks across all industries. She has been awarded eleven patents in selfcheckout, web based kiosks and data mining.

Ms. Walter began her career with NCR in 1983 as a personal computer product manager in Augsburg, Germany and held development, product management, sales and marketing and general management positions in the US, European, Latin American, Middle Eastern and African markets. She speaks Russian and German.

In addition, Ms. Walter:
  • Serves as vice president of foreign investment for Chelyabinsk oblast, Russia through PromAs, the Regional Association of Employers
  • Serves as an advisor to three high-technology startups in the US and Russia and as an independent director of TechnoHub, and guest lectures at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology
  • Was a guest speaker on technology at the 2004 G8 Summit at Sea Island, Georgia 

Harry Kelly is a member of EcoInvest LLC. Before coming to EcoInvest, Mr. Kelly co-founded Starboard Ventures LLC, a boutique firm focused on building companies around Russian technologies. He also serves as general counsel of Sparsix Corporation, a US-Russia high-technology company.

Previously Mr. Kelly was a partner at McDermott, Will & Emery, an international law firm, where he negotiated, documented and closed numerous venture capital deals, securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and cross-border transactions. He also advised directors and officers of emerging companies, private technology companies and public companies on issues of general corporate law, corporate governance and securities.

Before practicing law in the US, Mr. Kelly practiced foreign investment law in Almaty, Kazakhstan and taught American law at a university in Petrozavodsk, Russia. He speaks Russian and his articles relating to Russian technology startups have been published by Venture Capital Journal and other publications.

Mr. Kelly earned his law degree at the University of Maine School of Law, where he was an editor of the school’s law review, and earned his bachelors degree in Russian Studies from the University of Virginia. When Mr. Kelly is not in Atlanta he might be found in Tulum, Mexico, where he works on projects related to sustainable living and development.
