ABOUT ECOINVEST LLC

EcoInvest is located both in Atlanta, Georgia and Chelyabinsk, Russia. It is a member of PromAs, the Association for Business Enterprises and Banks in the Chelyabinsk Region. Joanne Walter, the president of EcoInvest, is also the vice president of foreign investment for PromAs in Russia.

EcoInvest’s™ Advisory Board reviews the annual valuation of EcoInvest's Portfolio Companies and EcoInvest's audited financial statements, recommends prospective advisors and alliances and otherwise advises the EcoInvest Manager.

Joanne Walter, Member and President

Joanne Walter is the founder of EcoInvest LLC, an equity fund and consulting company based upon technology solutions for environmental reclamation. EcoInvest has initiated projects in slag reclamation to create rock-wool insulation and has advised both US and Russian companies on implementing projects in Russia. Most recently, Ms. Walter set up Gazprombank’s planned high-technology venture fund, for which she developed the model and processes to run the fund and manage projects through their seed and start-up stages. Based on her work the bank received a license to operate this RUR 150 billion ($60 million) fund.

Prior to founding EcoInvest, Ms. Walter was a vice president at NCR Corporation. Among the businesses she launched at NCR were Self-Checkout Express and NCR’s web-based and stand-alone kiosks across all industries. She has been awarded eleven patents in self-checkout, web based kiosks and data mining. Ms. Walter began her career with NCR in 1983 as a personal computer product manager in Augsburg, Germany and held development, product management, sales and marketing and general management positions in the US, European, Latin American, Middle Eastern and African markets. She speaks German and Russian.

In addition, Ms. Walter:

  • Serves as vice president of foreign investment for Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia through the Regional Association of Employers
  • Brokered an agreement between Georgia Tech and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) to bring Georgia Tech’s Technology Management Program to MIPT and guest lectures at MIPT
  • Was a guest speaker on technology at the 2004 G8 Summit at Sea Island, Georgia
  • Serves as an advisor to three high-technology start ups in the US and Russia and as an independent director of the Moscow Intercollegiate Business Incubator

Harry Kelly, Member

Harry Kelly is a member of EcoInvest LLC.

Before coming to EcoInvest, Mr. Kelly co-founded Starboard Ventures LLC, a boutique firm that focuses on building companies around Russian technologies. He also serves as general counsel of Sparsix Corporation, a US-Russia start-up company.

Previously Mr. Kelly was a partner at McDermott, Will & Emery, an international law firm, where he negotiated, documented and closed numerous venture capital deals, securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and cross-border transactions. He also advised directors and officers of emerging companies, private technology companies and public companies on issues of general corporate law, corporate governance and securities.

Before practicing with McDermott, Mr. Kelly practiced foreign investment law in Almaty, Kazakhstan and taught American law at a university in Petrozavodsk, Russia. He speaks Russian and his articles relating to Russian technology startups have been published by Venture Capital Journal and other publications.

Mr. Kelly earned his law degree at the University of Maine School of Law, where he was an editor of the school’s law review, and earned his bachelors degree in Russian Studies from the University of Virginia. When Mr. Kelly is not in Washington or Moscow he might be found in Tulum, Mexico, where he works on projects related to sustainable living and development.

EcoInvest Russia

Alexander Khasin

Education: Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Masters degree (honors), in applied mathematics and physics

Mr. Khasin is a founder of Gradient, a Russian consulting company with a focus on business modeling in new ventures and government program support. He was formerly a consultant with Strategica, a leading Russian management consulting company. Currently he is advising the Russian government on seed company fund development and infrastructure support.

Alexei Shelgunov

Education: Moscow State University, Law degree

Mr. Shelgunov developed the legal structure for cooperation between domestic scientific organizations and private investors for the Russian government and the government’s procedures for commercializing state-funded IP. This legal structure was enacted into law in 2004. Mr. Shelgunov also developed the legal structures for financial tracking proposed by Russia as chair of the 2006 G8 summit and to be proposed as chair of the 2009 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Sergei Daylovskiy

Education: Moscow Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Masters degree in applied mathematics and physics. Candidate for PhD in economics, Moscow State University.

Mr. Davlovskiy was formerly an analyst with KPMG, where he prepared annual reports, planned project budgets, created financial simulations, and performed industry-related research, internal analysis of client companies comparative analysis within industry sectors.

Albert George , MPP

Albert George is a doctoral student in Science and Technology Policy at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned a Master of Public Policy, Regulation, and Industry Analysis from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and has worked as a consultant with the World Technology Business Division of Booz Allen Hamilton.

F. Michael Saunders , Ph.D., PE

Dr. Michael Saunders is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1975).

His research specialties include hazardous substances in sediments, soils and sludges; phytoremediation and bioremediation of hazardous substances; natural attenuation processes in sediments and soils; activated sludge modeling and removal of recalcitrant organics in biological reactor systems; industrial ecology; filtration and consolidation phases of mechanical dewatering and system modeling; and industrial residue characterization, treatment and reclamation.

Leonid Germanovich , Ph.D.

Dr. Leonid Germanovich is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (Specialization in Solids State Physics) from the Department of Mathematics, Moscow State Mining University in Moscow, Russia (1982). He is co-director of the Center for Applied Geomaterials Research. His research specialties include properties of earth and extraterrestrial materials, rock mechanics, fracture mechanics, micro-mechanical modeling, geophysics, and applied mathematical methods.

The company is located in Technology Square, the innovative new complex on Georgia Tech's campus that anchors Midtown Atlanta's emerging technology corridor. EcoInvest collaborates with Georgia Tech researchers to create unique investment opportunities for EcoInvest members.
